Troubleshooting Slow Internet Speeds
MontanaSky’s Support Techs will check everything on our end, but before you call there are a few things you can check on your end that can save you time (and possibly money).
Turn off all WiFi devices, Game boxes, TV streaming devices, and computers other than the one you’re going to test with. After you have turned off all internet devices, except for the one you will test with, you may perform a Speed Test. https://speedtest.montanasky.net/
It’s best to run this test on a virus-free, up-to-date PC or MAC connected with an Ethernet cable directly to your modem or modem router combo. The next best device would be a high quality iPhone or Android device (an old or slow device will not get accurate results), using a speed test app from https://speedtest.montanasky.net/
How To Properly Power Cycle A Cable Modem or Combo Device
- Unplug the power source from the wall or back of the modem.
- Wait 90 full seconds.
- Plug the modem back into the power source.
- Wait for the 1st four lights on the front of the modem to become solid. (This could take up to a few minutes.)
If the lights do not stop flashing after 5 minutes, call our tech support for further assistance.
DO NOT EVER PUSH THE RESET BUTTON – You will need to return the modem/router to our office for reprogramming if you do, and you may also incur a service charge.
